I was tasked to replicate some icons for my music app and these are some of the icons that I felt would suit what I have in mind
I started by a rectangle and giving it round edges, after doing so I had to find a way to bring the bottom corners closer to each other, hence this is how I decided to measure the square in order to know equally how far both corners have to come inwards
This is the aftermath of bringing the bottom corners inwards. I also increased the thickness of the outline stroke from 1pt to 2pt
I erased the lines and squares I used for measurement and added a red circle in the middle of my new shape. I used the eyedropper tool to get the shade of red from the original icon that I was replicating
In the making process of this icon I simply created a 2pt stroke outlined circle, I then copied and pasted the small circle from the previous icon I and and placed it in this big circle
After placing the circle here I drew a vertical line and placed it on the right side of the circle
I then used the anchor point tool to add an anchor to the top half of the vertical line and afterwards I used the direction selection tool to bend the line to my preference
The bend was given a 0.183mm radius at its corner
For the next icon all I did was create a square with a corner radius of 1.003mm
The music icon was copied from the previous icon and placed in this new one, after doing so I copied the square and turned into a triangle
As seen in this image I again used the anchor point tool to add an anchor to both top and bottom lines of the rectangle then I deleted the anchors, I doing so the line that the anchor runs through gets deleted to the nearest anchor
The next icon is an ear, for this I drew a line then slanted it a bit
I used the smooth pencil tool to make the curves a bit smoother
The image above showcases come icons that I replicated during my apprentice work with icons, I liked how minimalistic these icons look hence I went ahead and recreated a few that I thought would look good on my music app. The icons were created on illustrator because I find it difficult to manipulate shapes on figma, but I know that I will eventually learn how to manipulate shapes on figma as my music app progresses.
This is another apprentice work I did before commencing with my music app, this helped me have an idea of how I wanted my music app to look like and how it will be created. The process of replicating the music app on the left was easy in my opinion, since every icon is composed of lines, squares and circles I found it quite enjoyable to create them. Also I’m a bit of a perfectionist so it was very fun trying to place the icons in the right place to try.
