The images above showcase some more apprentice work I did, this apprentice work was for a new project we began the music app was done. This new apprentice work was the beginning of the creation of my dashboard. The images on the left are the original and the ones on the right are the ones I replicated using figma, I had to take a screenshot of them and crop them due to poor the quality was in the PNG versions I exported from figma.

The first one was the hardest for me as I didn’t know how to cut or manipulate the circles that formed the doughnut chart, but after I cut a piece of the circle away I got a gist of it and everything else went smoothly, I was content with the outcome and I felt proud of myself for being able to create the doughnut chart

The second chart was the easiest to create as all I had to do was draw rectangles of the same width but different heights, with the help of the ruler tool I was able to place them accordingly in the frame. This apprentice work was easy and fun, and due to how easy it was I decided to challenge myself with another doughnut chart

The last apprentice work was a bit of a challenge, this one was done right before I started created my lo-fi dashboard on figma, I did this doughnut chart because I wanted to learn how to manipulate a circle. I played around with the circle a bit and figued out how to create the doughnut shape, after learning how to do this I overcame a major obstacle and went ahead with the creation of the apprentice work, this one had more information on it so it wasn’t easy when it came to the placement of texts and shapes, although this one was the most challenging work it was very fun and it gave me an insight of how my dashboard is going to be created

All this apprentice work helped learn how to create certain shapes and how to space and place them adequately

Data collection

I took a note of money spent throughout my data collection week, I also made sure to write down where I was making purchases or payments and added the sum to find out how much was spent each day and the overall week. After collecting this data I had to correct a few things as some of the money wasn’t deducted on the same day that I spent it

The information here shows my sleeping hours, screen time, and calories consumed each day. This was probably the easiest data to collect because I tend to check these on my phone quite often and I always try to stay consistent when it comes to tracking my calories

This was another data that was easily collected as I have a black box with my insurance that tracks my every journey and duration of the journey. Personally not a fun of it but the app came in very handy when it came to this project. One down side is that the insurance tracking device lacks accuracy, hence later onwards I had to correct some of the data by verifying and correcting the journey distance with the help of Google Maps.

Here I wrote down what I want to display on my dashboards menu section. I hope I stick to this order. I also wrote down that I want to incorporate a calendar because it wouldn’t be a “life in a week” without a calendar to help with tracking.

Colour

I used adobe colour wheel to experiment around a bit, I quite enjoyed doing this as I came across a multitude of nice colours. I then decided to customise some of those colours and this is what I ended up with, I really like these colours because I don’t want to have colours that scream at you. I want the colours to serve their purpose by simply indicating the viewer where to look at, and what’s important. Red will be used on things that require attention, after seeing certain icons or texts in red, the user will know the importance of the data being shown

I also decided to experiment with the colours I got from adobe colour wheel because some of them might be used on different components that will need more than one shade of a colour.

Typography

Fontsinuse is a web that I highly recommend and admire, the websites showcases typefaces that are being used in the design industry. I visited the site in search for a simple looking typeface that screamed “information” and that is when I was lucky enough to find “Desk Sans” I immediately conducted some research on the typeface and proceeded to download its 3 versions

Even though I had found a font I was going to use on my project I decided to experiment with some other typefaces and none of them were able to measure up to the one I had chose, so I went ahead and used “Desk Sans” as the only typeface for my dashboard.
