In today’s class we were introduced to Branding and the process that needs to be taken before creating a brand, a brief was given on upcoming projects and topics we’d learn, and what we new skills and knowledge we would gain at the end of the semester. The brief is to create a new banking app which is aimed at a young demographic, between the ages of 16 and 25. I must say I’m very excited for this project and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since it was mentioned in the first semester, hence today I did research on my target audience for my banking app, I asked some people of my age group and also did some research on both traditional and online banks in order to have a better understand of what I needed to do.

What I took from today’s class is that a brand is a company’s identity, they use this to attract their target audience. We also looked at brand values, what I got from this is that brand values are a company’s pillars, they are the brand’s beliefs, their values is what they want their consumers to think of when they think of the brand. Another thing I got from this lecture is that every brand has their own of voice, I learned the different tones of voice and this gave me an idea how I want my brand to address my users.

I will be creating a google doc and send the link to people of my age group to gather information on my target audience and know what they want and expect on a screen based banking app. I must also do more online bank research and search for good and bad reviews to add to my blog.

Today’s class has taught me the basics how to create a brand and what things are incorporated in a brand, such as their values, use of colour, and tone of voice.
