This week we didn’t go into class but rather we Ormeau Baths to listen to Alex McDowell’s talk, Alex is a narrative designer and a lecture who places and emphasis on world building. In the talk we got to see a short clip of “Minority Report” a futuristic movie in which was released in 2002, this action thriller featured many futuristic elements like gesture control, eye scanning, self driving vehicles, smart homes, wearable devices, etc. Most of the technological things we see in this movie are things that we see in this day in age technology; and this is where speculative design comes into play, one could say that Alex predicted these things.

He also spoke about how a design process naturally isn't linear. How I related this to my project is that; I will speculate what my idea is going to look like and how it’s going to work, I will also work on developing it or bringing it to life, and during that process there will be times when I go back to work on things.

He also emphasised on how storytelling plays a huge role in the design industry as it helps us empathise with our target audience.
