In this week’s lecture we looked at illustrations, except this lesson on illustration was not the same as week 3’s lesson. In today’s class we learned about the aid that small illustrations offer when it comes to user experience, designers use UI illustrations to clarify things by displaying examples, this makes it easier to use for people to interact with what’s displayed on the screen as illustrations reaffirm what’s happening on the screen. UI illustrations on an app make it fun to use even though the illustrations are there to solely serve their purpose. When designing UI icons it is crucial to stay consistent with style and size. Another thing I uncovered is that having illustrative skills is important because those skills can be implemented in the design. Today’s class was fun, it was nice seeing different kinds of illustration styles in different apps, drawing my own icons isn’t something I would’ve thought of doing but after seeing some interesting illustrative skills I will definitely implement them in future products, but I don’t think I’ll be drawing out anything for my music app as I want it to have a modern sleek look.
Mascot
Mascot Illustration UX is often used to make avatars or characters in a dashboard a gaming profile. It can also be used to create an engaging experience for users, for example a character would appear to explain what’s going on on the screen or give instructions, this can be effective when it comes to introducing users to a new interactive feature or when a user uses a product for the first time.
Iconic
Iconic illustration UX refers to the use of iconic illustrations within UI to enhance the user experience. Iconic illustrations are visual representations of objects or actions that are simplified with illustrations along with a text, this makes them very recognisable universal language, making a UI easy to navigate. This is something that I will be definitely working with in future projects to make a UI pleasing and easy to understand and use
Diagrammatic
Diagrammatic illustration UX involves the use of diagrams to enhance the user experience within digital interfaces, diagrams can convey complex information in a clear and precise way that visually engages users. This helps users get a good grasp of what they’re looking at and the text that comes along with diagrams makes them easy to understand. Making it a very useful tool to having in your UI due to how easy it can engage users, besides this, due diagrams being composed of compressed information, this allows designers to add more things into the UI.
