This week I got on insight of how letterforms work and how they represent a brand’s tone of voice, I learned how important it is to use the adequate font, adequate style and sizing when it comes to display and text; because letterforms play a huge role in our society, back in the beginning of humanity, humans used to communicate using images, and we still do till this day, but nowadays words are used more often.

Certain typefaces convey serious messages and this can be identified by their shapes, for example some of the texts found carved in stones in Rome are serif letterforms, these typefaces give off an authoritative energy as they strip away the personality, hence they are taken very serious.

What I took from this is that if I want to create a serious mature looking logotype a serif font would then be the adequate one to pick. Another thing that I picked up today is that san serif fonts are usually used to inform, henceforth it’ll be important to use more than one typeface when creating my banking app if I want the users to associate a certain font as being informative or instructive. The importance of typeface became very evident to me today, it gives a brand character and personality, this will help me from now onwards when I start creating my brand, I think a typeface really helps deliver the tone of voice that I’m aiming to use when addressing my users. I’ve also learned that using the wrong typeface can give a whole new meaning to a message.
